Bunke Racing Claims Podium Finishes at the Gerald Dyrdahl Memorial Pine Lake Season Opener
Roseau, Minn. (January 10, 2022) –Bunke Racing claims podium finishes at the USXC Gerald Dyrdahl Memorial Pine lake 200 in Gonvick, MN.
Frigid temps, brutal wind, heavy snow dust, and timing complications wasn’t enough to stop the Bunke boys from landing themselves on the podium for the season opener.
The first green flag of the season kicked off with the Pro Open and Semi Pro Improved qualifier. The Bunke boys were lined up and ready with their Polaris Matryx machines for the 2 lap shake down.
The finals for both Pro and Semi Pro would be a heads up start and a fight for the finish line. #874 Boe Bunke would be first up in the Semi Pro Improved final debut. Boe battled his way up to the front of the pack and landed his Polaris on the podium for a 2nd place finish. The Pro Open would be the final race of the day as #14 Taylor Bunke would start in the number 13 position. Bunke fought his way up the field and landed seventh on his stock sled, proving his machine was ready to take on the stockers on Sunday!
Sunday morning would bring frigid temps diving to -30 degrees Fahrenheit. The Bunke Boys suited up in their Klim gear to take on mother nature at her finest. The heavy snow dust caused a short morning delay. Finally, the racers hit the track to battle for the front row positions only to find out a scoring glitch prevented officials from gathering accurate times. #874 Boe Bunke would be placed in the second row starting in the 7th position for the Semi Pro stock final. When the green flag dropped so did Bunkes throttle putting him in 3rd position after the first lap. Boe stayed consistent and landed his machine on the podium.
With inaccurate timing issues the Pro class would draw numbers for position in the heads up final. #14 Taylor Bunke landed a spot in the front row. The green flag dropped, and team Arctic Cat edged out to an early lead in the front two positions, meanwhile Bunke was holding his line in fifth. Taylor slowly made his way up the pack, getting ready to make his move. Holding the fuel can up high would be his father, Gabe.
Taylor raced in for fuel on lap number six for the mandatory fuel stop. The only words he heard thru his helmet was, “No one is ahead of you, keep digging, you’re running strong.” Taylor exited the fuel stop with a clean view in front of him and a Cat on his tail. The spectators watched as the headlights popped thru the cattails and it would be Bunke out front. Everyone in their vehicles were on their edge of their seats as the two machines played cat and mouse snaking their way through each corner for the final laps. The checkered flag flew and so did Bunkes arms in excitement clinching the win.
